Thursday 5th March was World Book Day and here at Hampden Gurney we celebrated the wonderful world of BOOKS! Our day of fun and learning was endless, with various activities, poetry and writing in store. Creatively dressed as their favourite book character, children and staff also displayed their love of reading, their knowledge of books and authors during an assembly quiz.

Thirteen Chinese students aged between 4-11 are visiting Hampden Gurney this week as part of a link up with Katherine & King's College of London to learn about life and studies in the UK. It is also an opportunity for pupils from Hampden Gurney to learn about life in another country and the differences in cultures and schooling.

The Hampden Gurney School Community are excited to be participating in a 5 week challenge to walk to school on Wednesdays! The School Council Representatives are looking forward to seeing everybody getting involved and achieving our school's commitment to healthier, more sustainable lifestyles! We look forward to seeing lots of WOW striders walking to and from school from Monday 2nd February to Friday 13th March!

On Monday 17th November, selected children from Years 3,4,5,6 were given the amazing opportunity to meet with one of the designers from the Transport for London’s ‘Year of the Bus’.

The book fair is back next week! Not only is this a wonderful opportunity for the children to buy good quality books, but it is also a chance for you to support the school.

For National Poetry Day, Hampden Gurney (working with Edgware Road Partnerships) ran a poetry competition within Key Stage 2 where pupils had to write a Tyburn format poem with the theme of Remember, in keeping with the World War I centenary. Ten winners were selected within Key Stage 2 and invited to read their poems aloud at this event.

Hampden Gurney pupils are celebrating Harvest in style this year! To launch RE week, John Hardwick from Barnabas in Schools www.barnabasinschools.org.uk, visited and ran workshops with each class on a variety of values relating to harvest.
